Recognition statements

Understanding your recognition statement

We issue electronic recognition statements for:

  • International Qualification Assessments (IQAs)
  • Overseas Study Assessments (OSAs).

A recognition statement is issued after your qualification has been evaluated.

How it works

We email you after we have evaluated your qualification. You can then download a copy of your recognition statement by logging into your NZQA account.

You can print out your recognition statement or share it with relevant authorities. Your recognition statement is valid indefinitely.

Please save a copy of the recognition statement for your records because we only retain documents for 10 years.

How to read a recognition statement

We compare an overseas qualification to a level and qualification type on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF).

More information about the NZQCF

Your recognition statement will contain a statement that compares the overseas qualification to the NZQCF. This statement varies depending on the service you applied for:

Verifying your NZQA recognition statement

Potential employers, education providers and organisations such as Immigration New Zealand can verify the authenticity of your NZQA recognition statement online. This is not a verification of the qualification you were awarded.

Verifying a recognition statement

What if I disagree with the recognition outcome?

You can appeal the outcome of your evaluation within 20 working days from the date your recognition outcome statement was issued.

Applications submitted before 30 July 2026 may apply for a review within 3 months of the published date on the recognition statement.

You can contact us to discuss the outcome of your recognition statement before deciding to submit an appeal.

Email the QRS team

The appeal fee, less an administration fee of NZ$55, will be refunded if a review of the evaluation results in a change to the recognition outcome based on the information and documents submitted in the original application.

A reevaluation is required if new information or documents are submitted with the appeal. The appeal fee will not be refunded.

Qualification evaluation fees

Appeals outside the appeal period

You cannot appeal after 20 working days from the published date on your recognition statement have passed.

Applications submitted before 30 July 2026 may apply for a review within 3 months of the published date on the recognition statement.

Our recognition practice is updated regularly to reflect international benchmarks and good practice. This may result in a different recognition outcome.

You can apply for a new IQA, and pay the IQA fees, if you believe a new evaluation will result in a different outcome.
